PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- George Washington senior Jacob Jackson is getting a taste of life as the biggest star around in the wake of an ankle injury suffered by Patriots running back Draven Riffe two weeks ago.

Jackson followed up his debut as GW's starting tailback with a stellar second showing in a 54-17 win at Parkersburg Friday night. Jackson carried 31 times for 386 yards and five touchdowns as the Patriots finished the game with 503 rushing yards.

"The offensive line was blocking well. I just made the right cuts," Jackson said after he ran for touchdowns of 6, 5, 53, 3 and 33 yards. A 63-yard run set up his first score, which gave GW a 6-0 lead with 5:29 left in the first quarter.

"Getting the push on the line is where it's at," Jackson said. "Without those guys, I'm not getting these yards I'm getting now. Our offense is really dangerous, but it all starts on the line."

Jackson ran for 252 yards and three touchdowns last week in a 49-40 loss at Cabell Midland. Riffe has missed the past two games after running for 1,379 yards and 18 touchdowns in the Patriots' first six games.

Suddenly, Jackson has 899 rushing yards on the season.

"He does an excellent job," GW coach Steve Edwards Jr. said of Jackson's ability to switch from his normal role as a starting wide receiver to playing tailback. "When he prepares, he's as good of a player as there is in West Virginia, in my opinion."

Parkersburg (2-6) looked ready for the challenge posed by the fifth-ranked Patriots (7-1) at the game's outset. The Big Reds took the opening kickoff and drove to the GW 22 in 10 plays before running back Corey Burdette coughed up the ball, giving GW a reprieve.

The Patriots took the upper hand thanks to Jackson's 63-yard run, and two plays later, they had the lead for good.
